KATHLEEN PLATE of Scottdale is the designer and founder of Smart Glass Jewelry. SIGNATURE STYLE: "Eclectic, yet sort of simple and classic with a few standout accent pieces. I usually wear at least one piece designed or made by someone I know, and almost everything I wear has a story." Navy blue boatneck dress by Diane von Furstenberg and gray leather slouch boots from Sole. A WEAKNESS: "Shoes! I'm already 5'11'', but I have a closet full of heels! Very funny since I wear flip-flops in my studio every day." H&M jeans and Miss Sixty tangerine and camel peep-toe shoes. FAVORITE STORES: "I love local boutiques. I always find some- thing good at Fabutique in Decatur." KRELwear organic linen weave knitted top, organic cotton camisole and Smart Glass necklace made from recycled beer bottles. BEST FINDS: "Donald J Pliner tall black boots for $50 or vintage flared Levi's from the '60s (that fit me perfectly) in a thrift store in San Francisco." Karmel & Alden jeans. COLLECTIBLES: "I collect eco-friendly handbags, made from repurposed billboards, candy wrappers, soda can tops, news- paper, etc." Her recycled bags include an Ecoist bag made from candy wrappers (front center), an orange clutch by GG2G, a clutch made from recycled newspaper, and a purse made from recycled pull tabs by Escama Studio. FAVORITE LABELS: "EcoSkin, my favorite eco-savvy brand. Karmel & Alden jeans are so comfy. I like Miss Sixty Couture when I'm feeling sassy." EcoSkin black dress made from bamboo tencel and Smart Glass earrings from her boutique line. BIGGEST SPLURGE: "When I got my first big deal with Aveda, I bought this crazy coat at a boutique in the Virginia Highlands. It had orange/gold fur on the lapel and cuffs. I loved that coat but finally had to give it away." STANDOUT FASHION MOMENT: "Watching my glass dresses wow the crowd at L.A. Fashion Week and then walking the runway behind them." FASHION PET PEEVE: "When people buy a whole look right off a store mannequin -- no imagination, no individuality. I don't think I've ever purchased two pieces specifically to wear together." White top from Nation, H&M jeans and earrings from her Smart Glass Open Line. ATLANTA STYLE IS ... "A lot more girly and fun than Washington state, where I grew up. When I go home, my friends can tell I live in a city!" GG2G clutch made from recycled billboards.
