Innovative Creations by Kathleen Plate
Sustainable luxury never looked so good, thanks to the artistic genius of Kathleen Plate. Finding beauty in the unexpected, the Atlanta-based designer has turned the ordinary into the extraordinary with her recycled glass jewelry and home decor lines - the latter inspired by the phenomenal success of these. Her stunning works have graced the Guggenheim Museum, World of Coca-Cola, Sundance Film Festival and fashion runways. Plate recently designed the lobby of Hotel Indigo in Midtown and created a glass chandelier (made from 50 recycled Coca-Cola bottles) for the new Chik-fil-a Loyola Water Tower In-Line store in Chicago. Led by a personal commitment to the environment, Plate founded Smart Glass Jewelry in 1992, transforming beer, soda and wine bottles into highly-acclaimed line of necklaces, earrings, bracelets and rings. She sliced and smoothed cross sections of the glass bottles to make the dazzling accessories. In 2009, she unveiled the Smart Glass Art Collection, expanding her signature offerings to include glass chandeliers, wall art, sconces and sculpture.
